For the lady finger syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons Kahlua or coffee liqueur
- 1 teaspoon instant espresso
For the mascarpone zabaglione:
- 6 large egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 ounces Kahlua or dark rum
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
To build:
- 7 ounces lady fingers
- Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings, for garnish
EQUIPMENT
- 8×8-inch baking dish
- 4-quart pot and medium mixing bowl
- Large whisk
- Electric hand or stand mixer
- Offset spatula

- 2 1/2 cup Coffee and Amaretto Syrup (click for recipe)
Process
- Line lady fingers in the bottom of a 9x9x2.5 glass dish.
- Drizzle lady fingers with the coffee and amaretto syrup.
- Top with half the amount of cream cheese filling.
- Repeat first three steps, smooth the top layer of cream cheese filling, and dust with cocoa powder.
- Cover with a lid or plastic wrap and refrigerate up to 24 hours before serving.
